Polar Museums Network

Lic. Carlos Pedro Vairo, director of the Maritime Museum of Ushuaia, presented his work on October 23 at the Meeting of Polar Museums.
The presentations were two: "The Antarctic Museum of Ushuaia José María Sobral and his research" . and "Collaboration between Museums: Naval Museum of the Nation, Ice Lady Patagonia Association and the Maritime Museum of Ushuaia in their Antarctic campaigns and exhibition in the Canary Islands, Lisbon and Bilbao".


Representing the Province of Tierra del Fuego, he signed the integration to said network. It should be noted that he was the only representative from Latin America, before a public present of English, Norwegians, Scots, Swedes, and Italians, among other nationalities.

The Polar Museum Network (PMN) is a new initiative to strengthen and disseminate knowledge of polar history, science and exploration.

The PMN Network is also open to all people and institutions that demonstrate a permanent interest in the collection, preservation, research and interpretation of polar artifacts.

The objectives of the PMN are to: Foster greater international collaboration between polar museums Strengthen competition through information exchange, meetings and temporary staff exchange Cooperate in exhibitions, research, extension / learning, documentation and conservation Organize Network partner meetings on an annual basis, the meeting place to circulate among partners Promote the PMN as a resource in society Promote the exchange of information and ideas among partners Spread knowledge and awareness and increase interest in the past, present and future polar regions.
